Foods that cause joint pain

Joint pain is a serious problem faced by around 20% of individuals on a daily basis. Mostly, it is seen in older people with debilitating arthritis. Not only does it affect older people but also those who workout, take heavy workloads and travel a lot.

Anyone who suffers from joint pain must be aware of the depression, stress and anxiety it creates throughout the day. If you really want to get relief from joint pain, then you must follow the below suggested guidelines about certain food items.

Commercially raised meat

If you are a non-vegetarian and joint pain is hampering you, avoid taking commercially raised red meat. Now some people would say red meat is beneficial. However, when grown on a diet rich in omega-6 fatty acids (corn, soy beans) and antibiotics, then they can be harmful as well. Try to eat meat that is mostly grass fed, as grass is high in anti-inflammatory omega-3, to live your life with healthy joints and no pain.

Refined sugar eatables

Sugar is the biggest possible culprit for causing inflammation. High sugar content in your food increases the amount of glucose and end-products of glycation causes joint pain. It can be a difficult task to avoid sugar but its consumption can be controlled by substituting direct sugar with natural sweeteners like honey and molasses.

Dairy Products

There are many dairy products (cheese, cottage cheese) that contain artificial hormones deprived of enzymes that are good for digestion. Specifically, cows and buffaloes are given steroids and medicines to yield more milk. Such steroid and medicines affect your body and act adversely on the joints resulting in joint pain.

Vegetable oils

Mayonnaise, salad dressings, vegetable oils like grape seed, sunflower, corn, peanut and soy contain an element called omega-6 fatty acids that is responsible for onset of inflammation of the joints. Pain can be controlled by reducing the amount of such substances in your diet.

Some Vegetables

Vegetables like tomatoes, peppers, paprika, eggplant and potatoes are responsible for causing joint pain. All of these vegetables contain a substance called Solanine that is known to build calcium inside the body tissues. This results in joint pain and problems like osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. This doesn’t mean that you should avoid them completely, but their limited consumption helps you to eat and stay healthy.

Refined grains

Grains like wheat, barley and rye have a high gluten content which is a possible allergen. When your immune system detects the first possible trace of such an allergen, it immediately raises a red flag and generates an inflammatory immune response.

Your health and pain management depends on the type of food you choose or avoid to eat.  This really brings in a difference and helps you to live a healthy life, free from any kind of debilitation. In order to maintain good health, eat a lot of organic, leafy green vegetables, lean meat (full of proteins), drink plenty of water, get good sleep and exercise. Last but not the least – stay away from alcohol and cigarettes.
